Truls Mørk in conversation with Ludwig Quandt (14 min.)
2016 is the 100th anniversary of the birth of the French composer Henri Dutilleux. Not least for this reason, Dutilleux’s Tout un monde lointain... was programmed in a Berliner Philharmoniker concert in March 2016. The soloist was the Norwegian cellist Truls Mørk, who made his debut with the Philharmoniker as long ago as 1992. While very much part of the French tradition, Dutilleux developed a completely unique musical language which can be heard in his only cello concerto based on Charles Baudelaire’s poetry collection Les fleurs du mal. Mørk talks to Ludwig Quandt, 1st principal cello of the Berliner Philharmoniker about this poetic, and both technically and musically highly demanding work.
