Toshio Hosokawa in conversation with Daishin Kashimoto (5 min.)
Toshio Hosokawa’s piece Texture, composed for the Philharmonic Octet, was to be performed by the Berliner Philharmoniker both in Berlin and on a tour of Asia. For well-known reasons, the concert tour had to be cancelled. And so, on 6 June 2020, a digital premiere took place in the Philharmonie which was still closed to live audiences. Unfortunately, the composer was not able to be present at this event either. As a result, Daishin Kashimoto, 1st concertmaster of the Philharmoniker and leader of the octet, conducted an interview with Toshio Hosokawa by video. Topics discussed include the formal structure of the composition and the meaning of its title Texture. Kashimoto and Hosokawa also talk about the situation for musicians during the corona crisis.
