Kirill Petrenko in conversation with Olaf Maninger (18 min.)
The beginning of the 2020/21 season was accompanied by the Berliner Philharmoniker’s joy at being able to play in front of an audience in the Philharmonie for the first time in months. To mark the second concert of the season together with the orchestra, chief conductor Kirill Petrenko met with the Philharmoniker’s principal cellist Olaf Maninger for an in-depth discussion. Kirill Petrenko says that in future he will conduct works by Felix Mendelssohn on a regular basis, and explains the change in concert programmes that have had to be made for the first half of the season. This optimistic look into the Philharmoniker’s future is combined with a review of the months in which direct contact with the audience was not possible.
