Lahav Shani and Martha Argerich
Martha Argerich’s appearances with the Berliner Philharmoniker are always an event. Here she performs Sergei Prokofiev’s dynamic Third Piano Concerto. The programme opens with Claude Debussy’s Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune, which transports the listener to a sensuous dream world. In his cycle Pictures at an Exhibition, Modest Mussorgsky set a variety of motifs to music, including chicks in eggshells, the hut of the witch Baba Yaga, and an old castle. Lahav Shani conducts Ravel’s magnificent orchestral version.
