Yefim Bronfman

piano

Yefim Bronfman inspires audiences worldwide as a multifaceted pianist. His broad repertoire includes not only the classics of piano music. Works of the 20th and 21st centuries – for example by Sergei Prokofiev and Jörg Widmann – also form a focus and are regularly represented in his programmes with the Philharmoniker.

Yefim Bronfman was born in 1958 in Tashkent, the capital of what was then Soviet Uzbekistan. At the age of 15, he emigrated with his family to Israel, where he studied under Arie Vardi in Tel Aviv. Later, the musician, who has been an American citizen since 1989, moved to the USA to continue his training under such famous pianists as Rudolf Firkušný, Leon Fleisher and Rudolf Serkin. Bronfman launched his international career in 1995 with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal under the direction of Zubin Mehta. His first concerts with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra followed three years later. Since then, Yefim Bronfman has worked with many distinguished conductors as a guest of top international orchestras. In addition, he regularly gives piano recitals on the most prestigious concert stages. Yefim Bronfman is the recipient of the prestigious Avery Fisher Prize and an honorary doctorate from the Manhattan School of Music. He has chamber music partnerships with Martha Argerich, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Magdalena Kožená and the Emerson, Cleveland and Juilliard Quartets. Since his debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker in 1983, Yefim Bronfman has frequently appeared with great success as a concerto soloist, chamber musician and in piano recitals.
