Summary

Due to its range and its tonal character, the bassoon could be described as the cello in the woodwind family. So it is no surprise that Markus Weidmann ranks Bach’s cello suites among his favourite works and regularly uses them for practice purposes. Weidmann, who became a member of the orchestra in 1997, was formerly also a student at the Karajan Academy. In this film portrait from our series The Berliner Philharmoniker and their Instruments, Weidmann – who also plays contrabassoon in Philharmoniker concerts – talks about the making of his mouthpiece, favourite works in the repertoire and his passion for photography.
