Kirill Gerstein in conversation with Raphael Haeger (17 min.)
In April 2016, Kirill Gerstein made his debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker performing Rachmaninov’s Second Piano Concerto. With subtle musicality and seemingly effortless technique, Gerstein received an enthusiastic response from press and public alike. The American pianist of Russian origin enjoys success both as a performer of the solo and concert repertoire, and as a chamber musician with partners such as András Schiff and Tabea Zimmermann. Here, he discusses his musical preferences, his work with the Berliner Philharmoniker and his life as a travelling virtuoso with Raphael Haeger, a percussionist with the Philharmoniker since 2004, and who, like Gerstein, has extensive experience as a jazz pianist.
