Jakub Hrůša in conversation with Philipp Bohnen (20 min.)

For his debut appearance with the Berliner Philharmoniker in October 2018, Jakub Hrůša conducted works exclusively by composers who, like himself, come from today’s Czech Republic. At a young age, the musician took on the role of conductor and guest conductor in Prague, London and Paris, before taking over the position as chief conductor of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra in the 2016/2017 season. In an interview with Philharmoniker’s violinist Philipp Bohnen, Hrůša tells of the extremely cruel fairy tale underlying Antonín Dvořák’s symphonic poem The Golden Spinning Wheel, and the tragic historical-fictional narrative that inspired Leoš Janáček to create his orchestral suite Taras Bulba.
