Frank Peter Zimmermann in conversation with Philipp Bohnen (9 min.)
In 2012, violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann performed Bohuslav Martinů’s Second Violin Concerto with great success with the Berliner Philharmoniker. In October 2018 he played the composer’s first contribution to the genre with the orchestra: a work completely unknown for decades, and which was not premiered until after the composer’s death. Even the Philharmoniker have only programmed the piece once before. The music of Martinů, who was himself an outstanding violinist, is especially close to Zimmermann’s heart, as he says in this interview. He also talks about working with the young Czech conductor Jakub Hrůša, who made his debut with the Philharmoniker in this concert. He is interviewed by Philipp Bohnen, a violinist with the orchestra.
