Daniil Trifonov in conversation with Egor Egorkin (17 min.)
In the 2018/2019 season, the Russian pianist Daniil Trifonov took over the position of the Berliner Philharmoniker’s Artist in Residence. His performances included solo recitals, a lieder recital and chamber music, in addition to performances as a soloist in piano concertos. In June 2019, under the direction of Andris Nelsons, the artist performed Alexander Scriabin’s only contribution to the genre in the orchestra’s last concert of the season. The Philharmoniker had performed it only once before, in 1910 – with the composer’s wife at the piano. In this interval feature, Trifonov together with flautist Egor Egorkin, who has been a member of the Berliner Philharmoniker since 2013, discuss the fascination with Scriabin, his stylistic development and the unjustly rarely performed Piano Concerto, as well as Trifonov’s own activity as a composing virtuoso.
