Kirill Petrenko in conversation with Eva-Maria Tomasi (13 min.)

Kirill Petrenko describes Mozart’s wind serenade “Gran Partita” and Dvořák’s string serenade as “pearls” of the repertoire. Both works – rarely performed by symphony orchestras due to the relatively slender forces required – were performed by the chief conductor of the Philharmoniker with members of his orchestra in June 2020. In this interval feature with violinist and orchestra member Eva-Maria Tomasi, Kirill Petrenko talks about the happy circumstances in which Mozart and Dvořák wrote their serenades, about the appeal of “give and take” in rehearsal work with strong musical personalities and about his joy at being able to perform with his orchestra despite the corona pandemic.
