Kirill Petrenko with Strauss’s “Die Frau ohne Schatten” in Baden-Baden
Just as Gustav Klimt coated his murals with gold leaf, Richard Strauss also indulged in a musical opulence that was typical of Vienna at the time. Five dramatic voices are needed for his Frau ohne Schatten, as well as numerous supporting roles and a huge orchestra. The Berliner Philharmoniker and chief conductor Kirill Petrenko presented this spectacle at the 2023 Easter Festival in Baden-Baden in a production by renowned director Lydia Steier.
