Elim Chan and Seong-Jin Cho
In his Second Piano Concerto, Sergei Prokofiev created a work brimming with raw energy and mystical moments – and one of the most challenging compositions of its kind. It is the perfect vehicle for Seong-Jin Cho, whose playing combines virtuosity with subtlety. Witold Lutosławski’s Concerto for Orchestra has a propulsive quality, containing elements of Masurian folk music. Elim Chan makes her conducting debut, opening the programme with Sofia Gubaidulina’s humorous Fairy Tale Poem.
