Amihai Grosz in conversation with Tobias Möller (14 min.)

In October 2017, Amihai Grosz, 1st principal viola with the Berliner Philharmoniker, was the soloist in William Walton’s rarely performed Concerto for Viola and Orchestra. Grosz, originally from Israel, started off as a violinist, like many of his colleagues, before discovering the deeper string instrument. The keen chamber musician, who plays on a 16th-century instrument, talks to Tobias Möller of the Digital Concert Hall team about Walton’s both nostalgic and forward-looking concerto, the responsibilities of a section leader in the orchestra, and the challenge of performing before one’s own colleagues as a soloist.
