Joyce DiDonato in conversation with Tobias Möller (15 min.)
The American mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato has been one of the most famous singers for a number of years and yet she has never been tempted to succumb to the airs of a diva, as the likeable superstar relates in this conversation. The interview marked a concert performance of Hector Berlioz’s La Damnation de Faust with the Berliner Philharmoniker under the direction of Sir Simon Rattle given in the spring of 2015. DiDonato made her long-awaited debut with the orchestra in the previous performances of the “dramatic legend” as part of the Easter Festival in Baden-Baden. Here she tells of her initial nervousness before this appearance, of the specific requirements of the role of Marguerite, the finesse of French pronunciation and of her life, which has taken her from a small town in Kansas to the world’s major stages and concert halls.
