Mark Padmore in conversation with Stanley Dodds (13 min.)
Since 2005, the English tenor Mark Padmore has often performed with the Berliner Philharmoniker and, in particular, his performances of the Evangelist in Peter Sellars’s productions of Bach’s Passions under the direction of Sir Simon Rattle have left an unforgettable impression. So it can be no surprise that the charismatic singer was appointed the orchestra’s Artist in Residence for the season 2017/2018. Padmore’s Berlin residency is framed at the beginning and end of the season by some of Sir Simon’s favourite works: Joseph Haydn’s The Creation and Robert Schumann’s Paradise and the Peri. In between, the musician, who is interviewed here by the Philharmoniker’s violinist Stanley Dodds, will work with the students of the Karajan Academy and demonstrate his sublime interpretative skills in Schubert’s Winterreise and songs by Ralph Vaughan Williams and Benjamin Britten.
