Daniele Gatti in conversation with Matthew Hunter (16 min.)

After holding positions in places such as Rome, Bologna, London, Zurich and Paris, the Italian Daniele Gatti, who has enjoyed success in both the operatic and symphonic repertoire, took up the position of chief conductor at the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam at the beginning of the 2016/2017 season. His collaboration with the Berliner Philharmoniker, with whom he performed works by Paul Hindemith and Johannes Brahms in September 2017, has intensified considerably in recent years. In an interview with Matthew Hunter, a violist with the Philharmoniker, Gatti talks about the beginning of his career as a musician, his relationship to tradition, and his dedication to education which led him to taking on teaching responsibilities when he was 25.
