Stefan Dohr, Paavo Järvi and Hans Abrahamsen in conversation (18 min.)
Stefan Dohr became principal horn player with the Berliner Philharmoniker in 1993, following positions in Frankfurt and with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, among others. In addition to the Classical and Romantic repertoire, he also devotes himself with particular enthusiasm to contemporary music. This has lead to Stefan Dohr being the soloist in world premieres of works by major composers such as Toshio Hosokawa and Wolfgang Rihm. Moreover, Hans Abrahamsen, who himself played the horn in his youth, has written a solo concerto for him. To mark the premiere in January 2020 under the direction of Paavo Järvi, the composer, soloist and conductor all met for a discussion. The discussion covered subjects such as the process of creation and rehearsals, as well as the exciting moment for all participants when a composition which exists in the imagination and on paper is actually performed for the first time.
