With works by Mozart, Beethoven and Prokofiev, the Staatskapelle Berlin, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin and the Berliner Philharmoniker welcomed refugees and aid workers at a special concert in the Philharmonie on 1 March 2016. The performance was an overwhelming success and was a moving event, also for the musicians involved. In this video, the three chief conductors of the orchestras – Daniel Barenboim, Iván Fischer and Sir Simon Rattle – talk about their thoughts on the current political and humanitarian situation, about welcoming refugees, and the power of music to overcome cultural and linguistic barriers.
