Kirill Petrenko and Kirill Gerstein at the Waldbühne
The Berliner Philharmoniker and Kirill Petrenko ended the season at the Waldbühne with vibrant colours. Rachmaninov’s Second Piano Concerto was both yearning and rebellious. Kirill Gerstein, who made his debut with the orchestra in this work in 2016, stood in for an indisposed Daniil Trifonov. Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition was also performed, a work in which a tremendous range of different scenes are depicted.
