Karl-Heinz Steffens in conversation with Walter Seyfarth (17 min.)

Karl-Heinz Steffens and Walter Seyfarth played clarinet jointly with the Berliner Philharmoniker for many years before Steffens decided to give up his position as principal and embark upon a career as conductor. On the occasion of his debut as conductor of the Berliner Philharmoniker, Steffens speaks with Seyfarth about his decision in favour of a new musical career, about how happy it makes him to face his former colleagues as a conductor, and about how the unusual choice of programme – with works by Bernd Alois Zimmermann, Franz Schubert and Ludwig van Beethoven – came about.
